iPhone instalments in Egypt: what it really costs

An iPhone is one of the largest single purchases most Egyptians finance. The price gap between tiers, the difference between an agent's warranty and an import, and how to work out which plan is actually cheapest.
An iPhone is among the largest single purchases Egyptians finance, and phones generally are the fastest-growing line in consumer finance at 8.6%, per the Financial Regulatory Authority.
Because the price is high, every small decision here costs thousands — the tier, the storage, where the device came from, and how long you spread it.
The available routes
The same three routes covered in phone instalments generally:
A bank programme — usually cheapest with longer terms, but needs a credit card.
A shop plan — fast, but hard to compare.
An instalment app — an ID and a selfie, shorter terms, open to more people.
What changes with an iPhone is that the amount is large, so the gap between routes becomes a real number rather than small change.
The cost, worked through
An iPhone at EGP 55,000 cash:
| Plan | Payment | Total | Cost above cash |
|---|---|---|---|
| 3 months | 18,900 | 56,700 | 1,700 |
| 5 months | 11,600 | 58,000 | 3,000 |
| 12 months | 5,050 | 60,600 | 5,600 |
| 24 months | 2,850 | 68,400 | 13,400 |
The gap between the shortest and longest plan here is EGP 11,700 — the price of another phone.
The figures are illustrative, but the rule holds: payment × term, compared against the cash price for the same model and the same storage.
The storage decision

This is where money is lost most often for no reason.
The gap between 128GB and 256GB can run into thousands. Ask yourself: how full is my current storage? If your existing device has 128GB and still has room, the upgrade isn't needed.
And photos and video — the biggest consumers of space — can move to cloud storage at a monthly cost far below the price difference.
Agent warranty vs import
This is the most important point in buying an iPhone in Egypt.
An agent's device: an official invoice, a warranty honoured inside Egypt, clear after-sales service.
A personally imported device: sometimes cheaper, but the warranty becomes a problem, and network bands or certain features may differ.
Rule: if you're financing an amount like this over months, the device must come with an invoice and an agent's warranty. The price difference doesn't justify the risk on a large amount.
And make sure the invoice is in your name — it's what proves ownership and activates the warranty.
Four traps
1. An older model at a price close to the newest. Check the model name and year.
2. Quiet add-ons. A case, a charger and insurance folded into the amount.
3. The "before discount" price. Instalments get calculated on the higher figure.
4. Late fees. There is no binding legal cap — ask for the figure in pounds.
The decision that comes first
At this amount, the most important question isn't "which plan?" — it's "is this the tier I actually need?"
The gap between the standard tier and the top tier can be EGP 15,000. Divided over 12 months it reads as "1,250 a month," but it's the same 15,000.
Choose the device on need, then choose the cheapest way to pay for it.
What happens after approval
Your limit is set and reported to I-Score, the invoice is issued in your name, and the first payment falls on a fixed date. Each payment on time builds your credit record — which opens larger amounts later.
Your rights
Licensed providers must disclose, before you contract, the financing amount, fees, annual rate, administrative costs and total due.
Since September 2025 they cannot charge on the unused portion of your limit.
Where to buy
Large phone chains accept instalments. The detail is in our guide to where to pay in instalments and in Mobilaty.
The tiers: what you're actually paying for
The difference between iPhone tiers isn't always in the things you use daily.
| Tier | The real difference | Who it suits |
|---|---|---|
| Standard | All the essentials: performance, a good camera, battery | Most people |
| Plus / larger screen | Bigger screen, longer battery | Heavy readers and viewers |
| Pro | Extra cameras, a better display, pricier materials | Serious photography and content |
| Pro Max | Pro, with a larger screen and battery | Very heavy use |
The practical question: will you actually use the extra lens? If the answer is "maybe," that difference is money paid for something unused — and divided across months so it looks smaller.
How to confirm the device is genuine and covered
1. Ask for the invoice before you pay and check it's in your name with the serial number on it.
2. Confirm the warranty is the agent's in Egypt — not the shop's, and not a "one-year shop warranty."
3. Open the device in front of you and compare the model details in settings with the box.
4. Ask about the replacement policy if a fault appears in the first days.
On an amount like this, those four steps protect you from a loss far larger than any price difference.
A practical habit on payments
Set a reminder two days before each due date. If cash gets tight, those two days give you a chance to contact the provider before a late payment is recorded.
More importantly: size the payment against a bad month — one with an unexpected expense — not a normal one. Large payments on amounts like these feel comfortable in month one and tight in month four.
Timing matters
iPhone prices in Egypt move with two things: the release of a new generation and the exchange rate.
After a new generation lands, the previous one drops — the best moment to buy if you don't need the newest. The difference sometimes covers the entire cost of financing.
If you need the device now, don't wait on the hope of a price drop — open-ended delay usually costs more than the financing itself.
Five questions before you sign
1. What is the total due, exactly?
2. Are administrative fees or insurance added?
3. What is the late fee in pounds?
4. Is there a fee for settling early?
5. Will the invoice be in my name with an agent's warranty?
Five written answers before signing matter more than any price comparison.
Where Lucid fits
Lucid has a limit up to around EGP 50,000 and plans of two to five months, plus a dedicated phone product — Lucid Mobile, with Mobilaty.
Plainly, and it matters here: the higher iPhone tiers may exceed our limit, and our terms are short. If you need a longer term or a larger amount, a consumer finance company or a bank programme will suit you better. Coverage is Cairo, Giza and Alexandria, and there is a late fee.

Frequently asked questions
How do I finance an iPhone in Egypt?
Three routes: a bank programme with a credit card, a shop plan, or an instalment app using an ID and a selfie.
Can I finance an iPhone without a credit card?
Yes. Instalment apps generally don't ask for one. See instalments without a credit card.
What's the cheapest way to finance an iPhone?
The shortest term whose payment you can carry. Multiply payment by term and compare against the cash price for the same model and storage.
Agent device or import?
An agent's device, especially when financing. The warranty and invoice protect you on a large amount, and the price difference doesn't justify the risk.
128GB or 256GB?
Check how full your current storage is. If it isn't full, 128GB is enough, and the difference can be saved or covered by cloud storage.
Can a used iPhone be financed?
Rarely on the formal route. Financing generally covers new devices with an invoice and an agent's warranty.
Does financing raise the price?
Usually yes, and the gap widens with the term. At iPhone amounts, the difference between 3 and 24 months can exceed ten thousand pounds.
Will they ask for a down payment?
It varies by provider and offer. Ask, because a down payment changes both the payment and the total.
Can I settle early?
Usually yes, but ask about early-settlement fees before you contract.
Is this reported to I-Score?
Yes. Reporting is mandatory once your limit is approved.
Must the invoice be in my name?
Yes. It's what proves ownership and activates the warranty.
What documents are required?
Usually a valid national ID, a selfie and a mobile number in your name. The bank route asks for more.
Should I wait for the new model?
If a new model is close, current prices tend to fall after its release. If you need the device now, waiting isn't an option.
Does coverage vary by area?
Yes. Many apps start in Cairo, Giza and Alexandria.
What if I'm going to miss a payment?
Contact the provider before the due date. Late payment is recorded and carries a fee with no binding legal cap.
Can I sell my old phone and top up?
Yes, and it lowers the financed amount, the payment and the total together. Calculate: new price − old value.
